Cambodian Singer Says She Was Tricked by Sam Rainsy into Fleeing to France

PHNOM PENH: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, An Sok Khoeun, confirmed to EAC that the Cambodian Embassy in France helped a woman who was tricked by the opposition party's propaganda to safely return to Cambodia on the morning of June 12.

An Sok Khoeun stated, "In response to the request of the person concerned and with the intervention and coordination of the Cambodian Embassy in France, Ms. Nhem Savath returned safely to Cambodia this morning, June 12, 2023."

Before returning to Cambodia, Nhem Savath released a video explaining that Sam Rainsy convinced her to move to France after explaining that her safety was compromised due to her singing in a Candlelight Party promotional song. Believing Sam Rainsy, she sold her house and used the money to flee to France.

In the 18-minute video, she called on people not to believe Sam Rainsy’s incendiary statements and told them to participate in the upcoming national election for the sake of everyone. She then encouraged people to vote for the Cambodian People’s Party to maintain and protect the peace.
